2018-19 OER Grants Awarded

By | September 25, 2018

The 2018-19 Open Oregon Educational Resources grants were awarded on June 1. Congratulations to our grantees!

Taken together, the 53 projects include 18 institutions and have the potential to save over 11,000 Oregon students close to $2 million in the pilot year of the program. This represents an estimated impact of $4.50 in savings for each $1 of grant money spent. Beyond the pilot phase it is expected that these fully accessible and openly licensed course materials will be used even more widely and increase the student savings impact.

Many thanks to the Oregon Community College Distance Learning Association, the Community Colleges and Workforce Development office of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission, and the sponsors of House Bill 2729 for this grant funding, and to the members of the Grant Evaluation Committees for their teamwork in evaluating the grant proposals.

Summer Stats

Ten grant projects had OER already in use during summer term. These faculty were building the bicycle at the same time as they were riding it – that is, they redesigned and taught their courses at the same time.

Between the two grant funds, 231 students saved over $26,000 during summer term. Many more students will be enrolled in grant-related courses this fall and in the rest of the academic year.
