The Oregon Virtual Statewide OER Symposium planners seek proposals for pre-recorded lightning talks that are under 10 minutes long. Videos will be released on April 25, 2025 and participants are welcome to optionally watch videos and explore resources before and after the synchronous conference time.
At the Virtual Symposium on May 2, 2025, we have two time slots of concurrent sessions for synchronous “Virtual Watch Party & Discussion” sessions. During sessions, we will screen thematically grouped lightning talks followed by lively discussion with colleagues. Presenters will attend their screening, participate in the watch party chat, and answer questions during discussion time.
We are looking for open education related content from our Oregon community of practice that fits with our goals for the event:
- Celebrate 10 years of Oregon’s open education community of practice, and
- Inspire participants with takeaways to apply in their own open education work.
Lightning talks may respond to the following themes, but do not let these suggestions limit your creativity! (Looking for inspiration? Take a look at the 2023 Symposium materials.)
- Beginner Room: connecting beginners with more experienced colleagues who can get you started
- Instructor-to-Instructor Conversations: mentorship, expertise, and case studies
- Success Stories: amazing savings, super teaching, other brag-worthy wins
- AI & OER: boosters and skeptics are welcome here
- Building Culture: policy, events, tenure, incentives, and other institutional moves
- How-tos for Authors and Course Designers: project management and productivity tools and approaches
- Course Materials Procurement: how faculty decide on materials, campus store models, course marking
- 10 Years Later…: lessons learned, project evolution, longitudinal happenings
