K12 Sex Ed and Substance Use OER for Oregon Health Standards

By | February 6, 2026

Join us for an engaging session discussing the Sexuality Education and Substance Use Open Educational Resources (OER) from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and how they support educators in meeting Oregon’s Health Education Standards.

Presenters Sasha Grenier (ODE Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment) and Alanna Russell (ODE Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) will provide an overview of both OER collections, highlighting how the lessons are designed to be flexible, standards-aligned, and educator-friendly. Participants will learn how the resources support inclusive, age- and developmentally- appropriate instruction and reduce barriers to high-quality health education across diverse learning environments. We’ll also walk through the lesson development process and share how educators learn about and access these resources. Finally, the session will focus on considerations for adaptation and equitable access, including strategies for tailoring content to local contexts, supporting diverse learners, and ensuring materials are accessible for students with varying needs and experiences.

Practicing K-12 educator Susannah Lightbourne-Maynard will also be present to discuss her experience using these ODE OER resources.

Participants will leave with:

  • A clear understanding of the Sex Ed and Substance Use OER collections
  • Insight into how the lessons were developed and aligned to standards
  • Practical guidance for adapting lessons to support equity and local needs

This webinar takes place from 3-4 Pacific time, March 5, 2026.
The session will be recorded and captioned to share later.
We will enable automatic captions in the session. Please let us know about additional accommodations you need to participate in this webinar.
